ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“I believe that if we open our eyes and look, we can all see beauty everywhere around us.  I live and breathe art and my aim is to open others’ eyes and hearts to it as well. ”

BIOGRAPHY

Gill was born in the North East and moved to Norfolk in her teens.  The daughter of a prolific watercolour artist whose work hangs in private collections on five continents it could be assumed that she would have taken more than a passing interest in painting, especially after taking the First prize for under 11’s art competition at the Darlington Show three years running.  However, she followed a career in science and teaching, her true calling only becoming apparent when she suffered a serious illness in 2009 and started painting in April 2010 as part of her convalescence.

Now based in Rossendale Gill started rekindling her interest in art by painting animal commissions in acrylic.  Within a year she had found the freedom of painting in watercolour and now paints in various media.  She is largely self-taught but has undertaken several workshops held by excellent artists and is now ready to develop this side of her artistic talent to include holding workshops of her own.

At present animal commission work is still completed in either acrylic or gouache but she is always open to a challenge.

Gill is still building up her portfolio as an artist and is currently producing a collection of paintings, prints and cards for exhibition and sale. She works in a variety of media although specialises in watercolours, acrylic, gouache and mixed media.

One of her latest watercolours “As kingfishers catch fire…” has been recently used to advertise a local Art venue.

Gill’s current art can be seen in her studio which is based at Milltown Gallery, Waterfoot, Rossendale, Lancashire.

She is a Trustee of the Association of Animal Artists (AAA), a member of the Haworth Artists Network and the Society of All Artists (SAA).
