Sophie Welch is a self-taught wildlife and pet portrait artist residing in Swansea, South Wales with her partner and daughter.

Art has been her main passion from a very young age, heavily influenced and encouraged by her late artist grandmother.  She also has fond childhood memories of going on nature walks with her grandfather, often sharing his camera to take photos of wildlife subjects. She attributes this to her love of animals and the beauty of nature all around us.

After gaining an A in GCSE Art, she went on to study Graphics and Illustration in college and gained a BTEC National Diploma. She spent the next 20 years working in non-creative jobs and stopped drawing altogether. Then in March 2021, she decided to revive her passion and threw herself back into art, exploring a variety of mediums and teaching herself to paint.

Sophie is an avid advocate for wildlife conservation and animal welfare.  She is passionate about caring for the environment and only works with professional grade, non-toxic and vegan friendly materials. She carries this ethos into her day-to-day life, where she has adopted a vegan lifestyle with her family and is always looking for ways to reduce their impact on the planet and animals.

Her main style is realism with a touch of abstract; focusing on form, textures, tonal values and the use of colour to bring her subjects alive and tell a story, evoking emotions in the viewer. She is dedicated to celebrating the beauty around us and spreading positive messages about mental wellbeing and living in harmony.

She hopes that through her art she will be able to help raise awareness of environmental and animal welfare issues, and also support animal and conservation charities, ocean clean-up operations and animal sanctuaries.
